Dj AM Friday August 28, 2009

Dj AM (Adam Goldstein) was found dead yesterday in his New York apartment, just eleven months after his nearly fatal plane crash. I first heard this news while I was watching The Daily 10 on E!. Dj AM was best known for being a celebrity disk jockey, socialite, his engagement to Nicole Richie, relationship with Mandy Moore, insane collection of tennis shoes, and surviving a fatal fiery plane crash along with good friend Adam Barker.

Perez Hilton wrote on his twitter page, "A pipe commonly used to smoke drugs and prescription pill bottles were found at Dj AM's apartment," he also provides a link to his website for more information.

AM had recently completed an MTV documentary concerning drug abuse/addiction. Sources say a worried friend had not heard from AM in several days. Police found Dj AM's body face down on his mattress. He was wearing sweatpants and was shirtless.

No foul play is suspected. Dj AM was only 36-years-old.

    Mr. Stagg's Story

Mr. Stagg teaches World Literature. He has taught school for 13 years. He has taught at my current private school for 9 and taught at his inner city school for 4 not counting student teaching. He told us startling stories, most likely to scare us straight. His story:

"I worked at an inner city school for 4 years. I'm pretty germaphobic as a result. See this chair. It is mine. Nobody is allowed to sit in my chair. I taught kids who had AIDS, Hepatitis, bottom line, I don't know what goes on with you guys's immune system, but no one gets to sit in my chair. There is no verbal fighting, or physical fighting in this classroom. If you think I can't put you on the floor then you are sadly mistaken. At my old school there was an innocent where a new kid came in a made a jokingly gang sign and the fight was so bad two tables were taken down. I'll do what I have to. You guys may think I sound cold a cruel, but I promise I'm not. I cried at Finding Nemo."

    Should be an interesting year.

  • Don't like it. Don't comment.

I often wonder what kind of desperate housewife has time to sit at home and skim through hundreds of blogs. I understand teenagers reading and writing up blogs, but I have been getting comments from parents of 15-year-old autistic children. That is just weird to me.

What kind of lonely person sits in front of a computer screen/iPhone and reads blogs? Why? Xanga is not a social network. I understand that parents want help for their children, but seriously a blog?

I'll tell you why I blog. For real, I don't know. Probably because I usually post late at night when I'm about conk out or while I'm in the middle of a texting marathon. Right now I'm watching E! trying to recover from the first day of school. Yeah, first day on a Thursday, I know it's strange.

When my mom first started trying to help my brother with autism she talked, verbally, with other mom's in her position. Blogs like this one and others can be taken in so many ways that the truth can be misconstrued to where a robin turns into a crow. This is what I think an autistic child should not do. Take of it what you want.

I don't think he/she should plug his ears at a loud noise.
I don't think he/she should freak out because of any subtle routine change.
    I don't think he/she should flap his/her arms.
    I don't think he/she should bite himself/herself.
    I don't think he/she should verbally stem.
I don't think he/she should be allowed to watch and rewind the same movie over and over again.

A lot of people I think want to make the argument that fixing this behavior would frustrate the children and make them angry, but what I THINK, is that the reason the children do some of this behavior is because they are frustrated and cannot communicate.

My brother's respite workers have worked vigorously on all of those don'ts. Except the last one, he still watches the same movie every night. I don't even think they're working on that at all, but I want them to because it drives me nuts. 13-year-olds should not watch Teletubbies.

New Mexico was fun! But now it's back to school and a barrage of texts from Andy. Anyway...here's the land of enchantment for you!

    Prep School My Pickachu

Why do parents send their children to private school? Well? My mother says it was because the large classes consisting of 32-38 people at our local public school was not suitable to my advanced academic needs. "Advanced?"

This is the third year my prep school has fucked up my schedule. Somehow, after taking a year of French I ended up in Spanish 1...what the fuck? I took Health in the 9th grade and for some reason I am in that class again. And how exactly am I on the basketball team and in PE at the same time?

Hopefully it won't take a half quarter to sort out my classes this year. Prep school my pickachu. And to make it even better...East of Eden is on the first quarter reading list!!!!!

Oh and by the way...last quarter's The Odyssey of Homer is one of those books that is supposed to "change you." It was horrible. I don't remember anything about it. The Lord of the Flies was better.
